Cole among national leaders

Former Mt. Vernon standout Rylan Cole, a sophomore defensive back at Indiana State University, is ranked No. 7 in the nation in interceptions with .6 per game. Cole has three picks in five games for the Sycamores.

Cole is also among the FCS (Football Championship Series) national leaders in tackles. He ranks No. 25 with 9.4 stops per contest. Cole has 47 tackles, 26 solos, in five games played.

He has twice been named the Missouri Valley Football Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

In Saturday’s 48-42 loss at Youngstown State, Cole had four tackles, including three solos.

Hockett is Player of the Week

Taylor University’s Jacob Hockett, a New Palestine High School graduate, was named Mid-States Football Association Mideast League Defensive Player of the Week after turning in a career-high 21 tackles in a 24-21 win over Concordia Saturday.

Hockett logged 12 solo stops from his linebacker position and added one sack, two tackles for negative yardage, one forced fumble and one game-saving pass breakup in the end zone on Concordia’s final offensive play of the afternoon to preserve the three-point lead for the Trojans.

The honor was the first for Hockett, a senior, in his career.

In the win over Concordia, another former Dragons linebacker, Aven Jones, was second on the team in tackles. Jones had eight total stops, including two solos, to go with .5 sacks, .5 tackles for loss and a pass breakup.

Roudebush, Luker help Hanover

Eric Roudebush had seven catches for 40 yards and Brody Luker had an interception with a 63-yard return in Hanover College’s 51-20 victory over Manchester Saturday.

Both are former standouts at New Palestine High School. Roudebush is a junior wide receiver/punter for the Panthers. Luker is a junior defensive back.

Roudebush also had two punts for a 51.5 yard average. One punt went 66 yards.

Olive has six tackles

Wabash’s Will Olive, a 6-2, 250-pound defensive lineman from New Palestine, had six tackles including one tackle for loss in a 41-24 victory over Ohio Wesleyan Saturday.

Moore contributes in FC win

In a 48-19 win over Defiance, Franklin College linebacker Charlie Moore, a Mt. Vernon graduate, had two tackles and a tackle for loss in the Grizzlies victory.

A junior linebacker, Moore is fourth on the team in tackles for loss with three.

Sotelo has interception

Former Eastern Hancock standout, Cayden Sotelo, a sophomore defensive back at Anderson University, had an interception in the Ravens 59-3 loss to Mt. St. Joseph Saturday.

He was also tied for second on the team in tackles with four

On the season, Sotelo leads the Ravens in tackles (40) and interceptions (3).

He ranks fourth in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference in interceptions and fifth in tackles.

Also in the Mt. St. Joseph game, Travon Hegler-Wright, a freshman from Mt. Vernon High School, had 102 yards in kickoff returns, including a 56-yarder. Hegler-Wright added one reception for six yards.
