Riley home tours, birthday party planned

GREENFIELD – Don’t forget to celebrate Riley Festival’s namesake this weekend. A birthday celebration in honor of James Whitcomb Riley will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9 at Lizabuth Ann’s Kitchen at the Riley Boyhood Home and Museum, 250 W. Main St. Celebrate with cake served by the Riley Festival queen and court, poetry readings and greet a local Riley impersonator.

The museum and home is also open for tours all weekend. Hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. today, Oct. 6; 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 7; noon to 5 p.m. Oct. 8 and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 9.

Adult Halloween event set

GREENFIELD – Tickets are available now for Nightmare on Main Street, a Halloween costume ball for people 21 and older.

The event is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28 in downtown Greenfield.

Nightmare on Main Street starts with cocktails, followed by dinner and dancing at 7 p.m. Tickets are $75 per person and benefits . For tickets, call Denna at 317-509-2854.

Horror book club scheduled

FORTVILLE – Join the Scarlet Lane Brewing Company and Fortville-Vernon Township Public Library for a Horror Book Club at 7 p.m. Oct. 12.

The group’s second Horror Book Club pick is the suspenseful classic “Something Wicked This Way Comes” by Ray Bradbury. Discussion will be moderated by Katie Noonan; beer and food is available to purchase.

Family activities set at libraries

HANCOCK COUNTY – Celebrate fall and literacy with several children’s events coming up at all three local libraries in Hancock County.

Sticker fun for preschoolers is set for 10 a.m. Oct. 10 at the main branch of the Hancock County Public Library, 900 W. McKenzie Road. Preschoolers may also sign up for Autumn STEAM, a program set for 10 a.m. Oct. 18 at the main branch, focusing on science, technology and arts.

Teens can celebrate National Pizza Month with food, crafts and games at 3:45 p.m. Oct. 19 at the main branch of the HCPL.

Pumpkin decorating is scheduled for Oct. 20 at two libraries – the Fortville-Vernon Township Public Library and the Sugar Creek branch of the HCPL in New Palestine. However, space and supplies are limited for both sites, so visit hcplibrary.org or fvtpl.org to register.

Bentley’s Buddies – canine reading friends – will be available at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 15 at the Fortville-Vernon Township Public Library; 1:30 p.m. Oct. 23 at the main branch of the HCPL; and 1:30 p.m. Oct. 23 at the Sugar Creek Branch of the HCPL in New Palestine.
