Professor: Employment rates are pre-pandemic levels

WEST LAFAYETTE – Employers added over half a million jobs in July, surpassing economic forecasts, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics and a new video by Jack McCann, a graduate professor of human resource management at Purdue Global.

Purdue University released McCann’s remarks McCann says about employment trends on AP Video Hub in honor of Labor Day.

In the video, McCann states the unemployment rate has fallen to 3.5%, bringing employment to pre-pandemic levels. McCann says that employers typically stop hiring during a recession, but this latest job report shows the opposite. Traditional economic indicators are signaling caution, while employers are signaling confidence. Wages have increased for workers as they search for new jobs that will support their families during this inflationary period.

McCann goes on to say that 36.2 million Americans will work remotely by 2025 and that 77% of remote workers are more productive when working from home.
