Purdue Extension topic of upcoming chamber meeting

GREENFIELD – The Greenfield Area Chamber of Commerce will host a member meeting featuring a Purdue Extension educator at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6.

The event will feature Mandy Gray, health and human services specialist for the Hancock County Purdue Extension. The meeting is at NineStar Connect, 2243 E. Main St., Greenfield. Gray will be speaking about Purdue Extension.

County’s unemployment rate rises slightly

HANCOCK COUNTY — The county’s preliminary unemployment rate for July was 2.9%, up from June’s 2.6% and from July last year at 2.6% in 2021, according to information from the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.

Indiana’s preliminary jobless rate for July stood at 2.6%, down from June’s rate of 3.2%.

Howard County had the highest preliminary rate in the state for last month, at 5.7%, while Boone had the lowest, at 2.4%.

Collier earns credit union award

NEW PALESTINE – Ron Collier, CEO of Indiana Members Credit Union, was chosen as CEO of the Year by the National Association of Federally-Insured Credit Unions (NAFCU).

Collier and other winners of NAFCU’s 2022 Annual Awards Competition will be honored during NAFCU’s Congressional Caucus in Washington, D.C. Sept. 11-14.

This year’s NAFCU Annual Awards Competition honored eight winners in total and was selected by a committee of credit union leaders. Nominees for CEO of the year were judged in two categories: credit unions with assets of more than $250 million and those with assets of $250 million or less. Collier was a winner among credit unions with more than $250 million in assets.

In addition to being formally recognized during Caucus, Annual Awards Competition winners will also be profiled in the September-October edition of The NAFCU Journal magazine.

Collier is a longtime resident of New Palestine. Collier and wife Debbie have three children and five grandchildren.
