Herb society to host butterfly event

GREENFIELD – The Hancock County Herb Society will host a program on monarch butterflies this Thursday, Sept. 1.

Kathy Jackley will present the program; Jackley is an Indiana master naturalist and is currently the natural resource and program coordinator for the Rushville Parks Department. The program will include discussion on Indiana’s monarch butterflies and what residents can do to help the insect. Encompassing their life cycle, habitat and food sources, Jackley will also touch on what it means to be on the endangered list and if there is hope to turn the trend.

The event begins at 6:30 p.m. at ‘Lizabuth Ann’s Kitchen, behind the J.W. Riley Museum, 250 W. Main St., Greenfield. Light refreshments will be served. Meetings are free and the public is welcome. For more information, call 317-326-2274 or visit www.facebook/HerbiesofHancockCounty.

Bingo event to benefit MV alumni awaiting transplant

INDIANAPOLIS – A Bingo Benefit event for Mt. Vernon alumni Amy Eastes is set for 5:30 p.m. Sept. 15 in Indianapolis. Eastes is awaiting a liver transplant.

Tickets are $40 for 10 games, or $320 to reserve a table of eight. There will be raffles available and dinner provided.

The event is at VFW Post 7119 Fort Harrison, 6525 Lee Road, Indianapolis.

Annual food drive coming up

GREENFIELD – Fill a Truck – Fill a Pantry Community Food Drive is scheduled for Sept 24.

The Rotary Club of Greenfield, Greenfield Kiwanis Club, Sertoma Club, Keihin, Walmart, the Daily Reporter and the City of Greenfield sponsor the event. Donations may be dropped off between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the Walmart parking lot, 1965 N. State St., Greenfield, or at collection boxes located throughout city and county government buildings and churches.

Nonperishable items will benefit the Hancock County Food Pantry, Kenneth Butler Memorial Soup Kitchen, Shirley-Wilkinson United Methodist Church Food Pantry and Fortville Area Resource Mission. Monetary donations can be made via Venmo @greenfieldrotary.

Future Hancock open house, meeting planned

GREENFIELD – Local residents can review and comment on plans for the future of Hancock County in an upcoming event.

Drop in any time from 5-6:30 p.m. Sept. 20 for a Future Hancock County Comprehensive Plan open house. County staff, a planning team and steering committee will be on hand to listen to ideas. The open house will be followed by an Area Plan Commission public hearing and presentation at 6:30 p.m.
