Trevino, Marauders win in Rushville

Mt. Vernon had individual placings of first, third and fourth to lead the way in winning the 22-team Rushville Classic Cross Country Invitational Saturday.

New Palestine placed ninth.

Mt. Vernon had just 30 points. Northeastern was second with 80. New Palestine scored 253.

Tristan Trevino won the 5K race with a time of 16:26.3. Ahmed Saleh (17:14.4) and Colin Strachman (17:21.1) placed third and fourth, respectively. Landon Willis was 10th in 17:46.3.

All seven Marauder runners finished in the first 16. Austin Baugh was 12th (17:47.2) followed by Xaiden Jenson (14th – 17:50.2) and Jackson Dayhuff (16th – 17:50.4).

Cody Crawmer (18:23.8) and Gavin Smith (18:25.0) led New Palestine, finishing 30th and 31st, respectively. Jacob Cooper was 38th (18:48.5). Other finishers for the Dragons included, Hayden Taylor (73rd – 19:49.4), Sam Ragsdale (81st – 20:02.1), Cameron Mann (110th – 21:22.9) and Charlie May (138th – 23:15.0).

Mt. Vernon is ranked No. 24 in the Indiana Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches (IATCCC) poll, released Monday.

The Marauders and Dragons travel to the Marion Invitational at Indiana Wesleyan University Saturday.

Royals third at Wapahani

In the seven-team Wapahani Invitational on Saturday, Eastern Hancock’s boys cross country placed third.

Preston Markley was third with a career-best time of 17:27.1 for the 5K race. Brandon Metz was fifth in 17:33.9. John Henry Gray placed 25th. Caden Powers was 30th and Andrew Metz 31st.

The Royals travel to the Marion Invitational at Indiana Wesleyan University Saturday.

G-C wins Danville Hokum Karem

Greenfield-Central won the nine-team Danville Hokum Karem Saturday.

The Cougars had 16 points, six less than second-place Lebanon (22). Other team scores included, Cascade 36, Frankfort 36, Danville 39, North Putnam 52, Herron 69, Western Boone 73 and South Putnam 83.

G-C took two of the top three spots. The pair of Carter Crouch and Griffen Wheeler won the race with a combined time of 30:48 for six miles. Luke Haffner and Chris Ross placed third in 31:35. David Wasson and Elliot Ryba finished 12th in 34:30. The final pair of Elijah Ross and Sam Houston was 19th in 35:58.

The Cougars travel to the Columbus North Classic Saturday.

Girls cross country

Hauser wins Rushville Invitational

Mt. Vernon freshman Hannah Hauser won the Rushville Classic Cross Country Invitational Saturday.

In a field of 17 team and 174 runners, Hauser crossed the line for the 5K race with a time of 19:43.6.

Mt. Vernon placed third as a team. New Palestine finished 9th.

East Central won with 42 points. Batesville was second with 89. Mt. Vernon had 96. New Palestine scored 238.

For the Marauders, Melinda Cornelius was 17th in 21:27.6. Alexandria Jenson placed 21st in 21:44.9. Emma Gale finished 25th in 21:50.7. Julia Iserloth rounded out the scoring runners by placing 32nd in 22:08.6.

Madelyn Ludlow finished 56th in 24:14.9. Hannah Eads was 83rd in 27:01.8.

Courtney Study was the top New Palestine runner. She was 20th in 21:40.3. Alexis Baynes was 38th in 23:03.9. Cami Massari was 52nd in 23:50.0. Other Dragon racers included, Heidi Bloomer (63rd – 24:43.0), Amelia Stone (65th – 25:04.8), Edie Schwarb (66th – 25:08.9) and Evelyn Kell (80th – 26:36.3).

Cougars fourth at Danville

Greenfield-Central’s girls cross country team placed fourth at the Danville Hokum Karem Saturday.

Lebanon won with 13 points, followed by Western Boone (19), Herron (26) and G-C (29).

Lexie Copeland and Reagan Crouch were the top pair for the Cougars, placing fifth with an overall time of 40:45.07.

Emma Capen and Kendall Barrett were 13th in 43:20.40.Emma Bogle and Ashlyn Devlin finished 18th at 45:37.95.

The Cougars will compete in the Columbus North Invitational Saturday.

Girls soccer

Dragons remain unbeaten in HHC

With a 6-0 victory at Delta Saturday, New Palestine’s girls soccer team improved to 5-1-1 and 2-0 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference.

The Dragons got a pair of goals from Anna Luker. Other scores came from Addison Lindell, Tylar Whitaker, Nevaeh Gebhart and Rylee Hurst. Brooke Tanksley, McKenzie Hacker, Whitaker, Gebhart and Hurst recorded assists.

Goalkeeper Grace Hasenkamp had one save.

Delta dropped to 2-1-1 overall and 0-1 in the HHC.

The Dragons will play host to Yorktown (3-2, 0-1) Thursday.

Marauders edged by No. 3 Homestead

Mt. Vernon got the game’s first goal from Mattie Isger, and a second-half tally from Hannah Monroe, but was unable to get enough to knock off visiting Class 3A No. 3 Homestead Saturday.

The Spartans beat the Marauders 3-2.

Reagan Britt and Addy Wong had assists for Mt. Vernon.

Mt. Vernon (3-2, 1-0) welcomes Shelbyville (2-0, 1-0) today for a Hoosier Heritage Conference match.

Boys soccer

Cougars get another shutout

Greenfield-Central improved to 4-1-2 with a 1-0 win over visiting Westfield Saturday.

On an assist from Josiah Findley, Dalton Evanoff scored the only goal of the game. Goalkeeper Jordin Jones had 14 saves.

It was G-C’s fifth shutout of the season.

The Cougars (4-1-2, 1-0) travel to Pendleton Heights (1-2, 0-0) for a Hoosier Heritage Conference game today.

Dragons lose 1-0 at Bears

New Palestine was defeated 1-0 at Lawrence Central Saturday.

The Dragons (4-2, 0-1) play host to Mt. Vernon (3-2, 2-0) today in a Hoosier Heritage Conference match.

Girls golf

Bolding competes at MEC tournament

Eastern Hancock’s Abby Bolding was the lone competitor for the Royals at the Mid-Eastern Conference Tournament held at Maplewood Golf Course in Muncie.

Bolding shot a 122. Daleville won the team event with a 393. It was the third year in a row the Broncos have won the tournament.
