After trailing 1-0, Greenfield-Central scored seven straight goals to defeat Yorktown 7-1 in a Hoosier Heritage Conference match Wednesday at the G-C Soccer Complex.

Sophomore Chaney Brown and freshman Paige McCarley each had hat-tricks. Addie Bennett had the other goal on a penalty kick.

Gladys Rodriguez Trujillo had two assists. Meilyn Howe, Sarah Contrarez, Bennett and McCarley each had an assist.

Goalkeepers Jessica Merritt and Hannah Skene had one save apiece.

Greenfield-Central is 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the HHC. Yorktown dropped to 2-1 overall and 0-1 in the conference.

Volleyball

Cougars move above .500

Greenfield-Central improved to 3-2 on the season with a 3-0 victory at Richmond on Wednesday.

The Cougars won by set scores of 25-23, 25-18, 25-19.

Harper Holden had 10 kills.

The Cougars combined for 12 service aces. Rilee Roland and Emma Berty had four each. Mya Grigsby had three. Berty added six total blocks, including three solos.

Setter Makenna Rankins had 30 assists.

Marauders drop 3-0 match to North Central

Mt. Vernon (4-5) lost a non-conference match, 3-0, to visiting North Central on Wednesday.

Set scores for the match were 25-14, 28-26, 25-16.

For Mt. Vernon, Kate Ferguson had seven kills and two service aces. Libby Gee-Weiler had 20 digs. Setter Ava Whitmore had 23 assists.

Girls golf

Dragons defeated by tiebreaker

Fishers defeated New Palestine on a fifth-golfer tiebreaker at Purgatory Golf Course Wednesday.

The match finished 193-193, but the Tigers were awarded the win. Fishers fifth scoring golfer had a lower total than New Palestine’s fifth scorer.

For New Palestine (6-2) Zoe Nelson led with a 44. Hanna Beller followed with a round of 45. Lauren Appleby carded a 51 and Katie Kelley finished with a 53. Both Kate Stanfield and Lily Kirchner shot 54s.

Cougars lose to Wildcats

Greenfield-Central lost 226-230 to Lawrence North on Wednesday.

G-C’s Laney Elliott was match medalist with a 51. Ella Neill shot 53. Emma Jo Mohr and Della Hedge scored for the first time in a varsity match with 63s.

MV downed by Covenant Christian

Mt. Vernon’s girls golf team lost 206-222 at Covenant Christian on Wednesday.
