Leary is Indiana Sprint Week runner-up

Greenfield’s C.J. Leary finished second in the final points standings for Indiana Sprint Week, the annual USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car series that feature race tracks across the state.

Leary, who won the event, and the overall USAC AMSOIL National Championship in 2019, had 403 points in the six-race series. Justin Grant won with 464.

The Greenfield racer won the feature race held at Indianapolis’s Circle City Raceway on Monday, July 25. He had three Top 5 finishes. Other tracks in the series were Gas City, Kokomo, Lincoln Park, Bloomington and Tri-State.

He finished fourth at both Kokomo and Bloomington and sixth at Lincoln Park and Tri-State.

Leary is currently fourth in the sprint car standings and tied for second in the Silver Crown points standings.

Moles picks Marian

Greenfield-Central senior basketball standout Dylan Moles has committed to Marian University.

Moles announced, on Twitter, Sunday, he plans to play for the Indianapolis school, considered one of the top NAIA programs in the country.

For the Cougars last season, Moles, a 6-3 guard, averaged 19.2 points per game and shot 52 percent from the field. Additionally, he led the team with 3.3 assists and 2.1 steals per contest.

An All-Hancock County, All-Hoosier Heritage Conference performer, Moles has been a starter since his freshman season. He has scored, so far, 1,000 points in his prep career.

Strege named CSCAA Scholar

Anderson University women’s swimming and diving junior Halle Strege, who starred at Mt. Vernon High School, was named a College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-American Honorable Mention.

Strege garnered CSCAA Scholar All-American Honorable Mention for the second time in her career after receiving the honor as a freshman. She missed her sophomore season due to injury.

She was recognized for putting together at least a 3.50 GPA for the 2021-22 season and hitting an NCAA ‘B’ qualifying standard during the year. The former Marauder qualified for the NCAA D-III Central Diving Regional after breaking the 11-dive 1-meter diving ‘B’ standard of 395 points multiple times during the year. Strege set the women’s school record in the 11-dive 1-meter diving event with a score of 438.55 points and an average of 39.87 points per dive during the season.

Thompson signs pro contract

McCordsville’s Michael Thompson, who starred at Mt. Vernon before playing collegiately at Indiana Wesleyan has signed a professional basketball contract to play for FC Gaia in Portugal.

The announcement was made on Twitter last week.

Thompson averaged 10 points and 5.4 rebounds last season for the Wildcats.

A 6-5 guard, Thompson was a Mt. Vernon team captain and part of sectional championship teams. He was an All-Hancock County and All-Hoosier Heritage Conference selection.
