Here, Kelsey Donahue tells us about AR Workshop, a business she opened with her husband Kyle in McCordsville. Kelsey Donahue grew up in Kokomo; Kyle in Carmel, and the family currently resides in McCordsville with their children Blake, 2, and Madilynn, 8 months. AR Workshop offers hands-on instructor led workshops to create unique home decor; the business opened June 25. Daily Reporter: What does AR Workshop offer?
Kelsey Donahue: We host adult and youth birthday parties, youth art camps, team building events, baby showers, bridal showers/bachelorette parties and many other private events. AR Workshop has a “Make It For Me” service, realtor gift service, DIY-to-Go Kits, and has a beautiful boutique full of home decor, gifts, as well as fun take-home activities for kids!
DR: How did you come up with the idea to open the business?
KD: AR Workshop is a franchise. While planning a bachelorette party for a friend, I saw franchise opportunities on a website and decided to look further into business ownership.
DR: What is your background in this type of business?
KD: I have worked in social services and Medicaid waiver support for the past 12 years. I enjoy crafting, so this type of business was the perfect fit!
DR: Why do you think McCordsville is a good spot for a business like this?
KD: As McCordsville continues to rapidly grow, we want to be able to offer a place close to home where people can come to have a great time while expressing their creative sides.
DR: How can families use this business?
KD: This business is a great resource for everyone. We can customize your experience to your needs, whether hosting a birthday party, date night/girl’s night out, or a team-building event. Families can take advantage of our budget-friendly workshops by checking out the schedule on our website.
DR: What has been your favorite project to create in your business?
KD: My favorite project so far has been our new Christmas sleds which are only available this month during our Christmas in July specialty workshops.
DR: What if someone is hesitant about trying something new?
KD: No experience is necessary. Our staff are trained on each project and are here every step of the way to assist you. You’ll have a great time while creating a project you can be proud to display.
