Hershel Elbert Anderson, age 83, of Greenfield passed away Friday, June 17, 2022, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Whitesburg, Kentucky on May 21, 1939, to George “Curt” and Betty (Webb) Anderson.

He worked for the railroad as a welder in the trainyard. His life’s passion was to “kick concrete”, push around dirt, and operate his bulldozer, backhoes, and heavy equipment. He owned and operated Anderson Construction for over 50 years in Greenfield. Mr. Anderson was a member of the VFW Posts in both Knightstown and Greenfield. He was a fan of the Indianapolis Colts and Tony Stewart. He enjoyed working, boating, and fishing. He loved his kids and grandkids “with all his heart”.

He fought the good fight. He finished the race. Now Hershel is home with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

He is survived by his sons, Curt Anderson (Bobbi) of Greenfield, and E. Dean Anderson (Darlene) of Cleveland, Tennessee; daughters, Penny Anderson of Greenfield, and Lori Anderson (Colby) of Campbellsburg, Kentucky; significant other, Carolyn Anderson; sisters, Emma Cole, Wilma June Baker, and Mabelene Hammons (Winston); 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren (with another on the way); and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Junior Anderson; and brothers, Brose Anderson and Carlos Anderson.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 23, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary &Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will be held at the mortuary on Friday, June 24, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield.
