Letter to the Editor: Stop already

To the Editor:

I see that the Hancock Commissioners still don’t get the message that we don’t want any more TIF districts. We just defeated the attempt of one of the commissioners to get reelected, but immediately they are about to turn another 8,000 acres into TIFs.

That will put almost all of the developable land in Hancock County into TIFs. And what that means is that there will be no more commercial or industrial businesses that will ever be built here that have to pay full property taxes, like we do.

Why would we want this? We do not need the jobs, since we have one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country.

And why would we want to clog our roads with workers driving in from other counties? There are frequent 911 calls to existing properties; when I have an emergency I don’t want the fire trucks, ambulances and sheriff cars to be too busy taking care of the problems in all of those ugly white buildings that have covered much of our county already.

Stop already.
