Music at Mohawk begins June 25

MOHAWK — A series of free, family-friendly music events begins June 25 on the west lawn and shelter house of Mohawk United Methodist Church, 2045 W. County Road 400N, Greenfield, adjacent to the children’s play area.

Patchwork, a husband-wife acoustic duo, will play from 6-8 p.m. Featuring a mix of traditional and contemporary folk music, as well as a healthy dose of gospel and original music, Patchwork’s style is best described as “down home.”

They both sing. Holly Garrett plays fiddle and mandolin. Rick Garrett plays guitar, hammer dulcimer and mountain dulcimer.

People are encouraged to bring seating such as blankets or lawn chairs, as provided seating is limited to a few picnic tables. There will also be a “tip jar” so folks can show appreciation for each group and help offset costs.

Tech recycling set for June 18

HANCOCK COUNTY — Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church and Technology Recyclers plan an electronics recycling event for 8 a.m. to noon Saturday (June 180 at the church, 3447 S. State Road 9, Greenfield.

There will be people to help unload items.

Technological Recyclers will properly, ethically, morally and safely recycles items. It shreds all hard drives, which exceeds U.S. Department of Defense standards.

There will be a $20 charge for TVs and monitors.

All other items are free.

Items not accepted include: paint, toxic chemicals, furniture, wood, tires and clothing.

Free hotdogs served Mondays

FORTVILLE — Free hotdogs are served from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Mondays in June and July (except July 5) at Gateway Community Church of Fortville, 125 E. Staat St.

Hotdogs, chips and drinks will be served, and there are activities and games for children.

Multi-sport camp coming

GREENFIELD — Hancock County FCA’s Multi-Sport Kids Camp is set for 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Thursday at Brown’s Chapel Wesleyan Church, 994 N. County Road 600E.

It’s for Grades K-5 and includes basketball, soccer, flag football, volleyball, ninja warrior, dodgeball and kickball.

Double-match day to multiply pantry donations

CUMBERLAND — Saturday (June 18) is a double-match day, when grocery shoppers can donate at the store and see triple the benefit to help the food pantry operated by Community Outreach Ministry Eastside (COME).

Through Meijer’s Simply Give campaign, shoppers can pick up a gift card near the checkout, give it to the cashier, and indicate how much they wish to donate. Donations at the Cumberland Meijer (11315 East Washington St.) will support the COME pantry. On Saturday only, Meijer will double any donation you make. If you spend $10, Meijer will give $20, which results in your donation being increased to $30.

The COME pantry is open from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesdays at Cumberland First Baptist Church, 116 S. Muessing. The pantry serves residents of Buck Creek and Sugar Creek townships in Hancock County, as well as residents of Warren Township in Marion County.

Eight member churches in Hancock and Marion counties form COME and also support the pantry. COME member churches are Amity United Methodist Church in Greenfield, Cumberland Christian Church, Cumberland First Baptist Church, Cumberland United Methodist Church, Eastgate Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Indianapolis, Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Indianapolils, Mt. Comfort Church, St. John United Church of Christ in Cumberland and St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Indianapolis.

The Simply Give program runs through July 2.

Pantry leaders point out the Simply Give program has generated more than $70 million in food donations for more than 230 food pantries in the Midwest since 2008.

Cyber safety presentation scheduled

McCORDSVILLE — Parents are invited to a presentation on cyber safety at 4 p.m. Sunday, June 26, at Christ Presbyterian Church, 7879 Carroll Road, McCordsville. Guest speaker Amanda Giddings, a youth educator through the Indiana State Police, will share about the challenges of social media and how online experiences may lead to cyberbullying, sexting, solicitation and extortion.
