GREENFIELD – The Hancock County Community Foundation recently issued mini grants to the Exchange Club of Hancock County and Vernon Township Trustee.

The Exchange Club of Hancock County will use the funding to purchase 100 replacement flags and a special rebar pounder to enhance the American Flag Field of Honor recognizing first responders and military personnel at the Indianapolis Regional Airport. The Field of Honor will be on display from July 1-5 and will feature 500 American flags. This grant was issued from the W. H. and Lola Reason Endowment for Patriotism Fund.

Established to celebrate the lives of William and Lola Reason, this fund supports programs and initiatives designed to educate Hancock County youth about the sacrifices of men and women who protected the United States during World War II.

The Vernon Township Trustee will purchase raised bed kits, soil, plants, and fencing for a collaborative raised bed garden project with the Mt. Vernon High School Community Service Club. Produce harvested from the garden (to be located at Mt. Vernon High School) will be donated to the Fortville Area Resource Mission’s pantry in addition to being used for educational purposes, like food classes at the school.

This grant was issued from the Agricultural Heritage Endowment Fund. A member of HCCF’s Spirit of Community fund family, grants from the Agricultural Heritage Endowment Fund sustain the spirit and history of the county’s agricultural heritage by supporting activities associated with agriculture education, youth organizations, and other related agriculture programs in Hancock County.

These grants were issued from a pool of funds that is set aside each year to meet nonprofit organizations’ needs that arise outside of the major grant cycles. These mini grants can be made for up to $1,000 until the pool of money is exhausted.
