Bingo event to benefit McCordsville facility

INDIANAPOLIS – A designer Bag Bingo event at a VFW Post in Indianapolis will raise money to help support programs and scholarships in McCordsville.

The Jack Roysdon Memorial Foundation/VFW Auxiliary Post 7119 Designer Bag Bingo will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 16 at 6525 Lee Road, Indianapolis. Cost is $40 for 10 games with extra games and raffles available. Dinner will be provided by Kinsey’s Italian Cafe and beer and wine are available for purchase at the event for people 21 and older.

The organization adopts the residents at Traditions at Brookside Memory Unit in McCordsville throughout the year and gives high school seniors scholarships. The volunteers assist with Easter, Christmas and Veterans Day celebrations at Traditions at Brookside and all of the funds raised go back into the community. Humane society to have Dine to Donate event

GREENFIELD – Hancock County Humane Society will benefit from a Dine to Donate event 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 25 at Culver’s, 1846 N. State St., Greenfield. Retired teachers elect new officers

GREENFIELD – Hancock County Retired Teachers elected officers for the coming school year. Susan Geesa was elected president; Jim Pentzer, vice president; Becky Hiday, treasurer; Linda Bell, secretary; Peggy Carson, assistant secretary.

Members of HCRT reported volunteering more than 9,000 hours for youth and adults of Hancock County in2021. The organization meets the second Wednesday of September, November, March and May. Meetings are at 11 a.m. at Nameless Creek Youth Camp and include a box lunch. All retired teachers who live or work in Hancock County are invited to attend; email [email protected] for more information.

Three residents attend Indiana DAR conference

KNIGHTSTOWN – Three members of the Major Hugh Dinwiddie Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution attended the Indiana DAR conference May 13-15.

Denise Akers, Brenda Cotton and Marianne Hughes attended the event. Hughes was recognized for her service in the military, and Akers turned over her active regents presidency to become Cameo Club president.

The chapter also met May 7; the meeting included historical reports and an announcement to collect non-perishable items in the month of June. The group will meet next at 1 p.m. June 4 at the home of Marianne Hughes.

Veterans Hall of Fame nominations open

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Military Veterans Hall of Fame is calling for nominations for its ninth class of veteran honorees. The not-for-profit organization honors Hoosier service during and after active duty.

In addition to categories for combat valor and veteran advocacy, the group has added a new classification for induction for community support which recognizes veterans to have contributed exceptionally to their community, state and/or nation.

To be eligible, a nominee must meet any one of these criteria: born in Indiana; entered military service in Indiana; lived in Indiana for a minimum of five years.

All branches of the U.S. Armed Forces, all ages, living or deceased will be considered. The complete nomination packet and criteria can be found at imvhof.com/nominate/. Nominations will be accepted through Aug. 1.

Roberts completes executive fire officer program

WESTFIELD – Former Greenfield Fire Territory Chief James Roberts recently graduated from the National Fire Academy’s Executive Fire Officer Program.

Roberts, currently a deputy chief for the Westfield Fire Department, completed the four-year program that provides senior fire officers with a broad perspective on various facets of fire, emergency services and administration. The program is equivalent to an upper-division baccalaureate or graduate level, according to the Westfield agency. As an EFO graduate, Roberts is among a group of less than 1 percent of senior fire officials from around the country.

Heroes dinner registration open

GREENFIELD – Tickets are available now for the Community Walk of Fame Annual Dinner Celebration of Hancock County Heroes.
