New jail ribbon cutting ceremony on tap May 1

HANCOCK COUNTY — Officials from the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department will be holding a ribbon cutting ceremony for their new administrative offices and the new jail at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 1, Sheriff Brad Burkhart said. The new facility is located at 398 Malcolm Grass Way, Greenfield. Officials said the ribbon cutting ceremony is open to the community with an open house to follow after the ceremony until 5 p.m. They will also hold an open house for the community from 3-7 p.m. Friday, May 6 and then again from noon until 6 p.m. Saturday, May 7. The administrative staff is expected to move into their new offices the week of May 9 but will not be open for business until Monday, May 16. The jail will remain open at the current jail location until an undetermined move date to the new facility sometime in June.
