Donald “Don” Lopez, age 88, of Greenfield, passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at his home. He was born in Metamores, Mexico on September 6, 1933 to Elena (Villarreal) and Cleofas Lopez. Don moved to Greenfield in 1953 from Mexico and proudly received his citizenship in 1965. He was a very patriotic man and loved this country. For over 30 years, he worked at Chrysler, in Indianapolis, as a machine operator. Don was also employed with The Greenfield Water Filtration Plant, Meijer in Cumberland, and Wal-Mart in Greenfield. He was a member of the Greenfield Lions Club and attended Trinity Park United Methodist Church. Don was a collector of souvenir buttons and ball caps and he enjoyed old westerns and watching the Chicago Cubs. He loved Mexican food, specifically spicy hot, not chili hot. As the self-appointed neighborhood greeter, he sat on the porch waving at all who would drive by.

Don is survived by his son, Mark Gregory Lopez (Julie) of Greenfield; daughter, Donna Marie Perkins of Greenfield; grandchildren, Heather Gonzalez of Indianapolis, Brandon Perkins (Raneigh) of New Palestine, Stephen Lopez (Kate Androsky) of Wisconsin, Paula Crane (Josh) of Camby, and Elizabeth Grey of Greenwood; 13 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Benny Lopez (Diane) of Florida, Isabelle Leisure of Greenfield, and Betty Lopez of California.
