Vernon Township Fire Department recently welcomed two new fire engines. The Spartan trucks were built to the department’s specifications and will bolster its aging fleet. One is stationed in Fortville and the other in McCordsville. The total expense for both engines amounted to $1,000,050. Vernon Township Trustee Florence May attributed the ability to pay for the trucks to the Vernon Township Fire Protection Territory created in 2020 and donations from the former Fortville Volunteer Fire Department and a former Fortville firefighter.
