Backyard fruit growing classes offered

GREENFIELD – Local residents can sign up to learn about backyard fruit production in a series of workshops starting Feb. 16.

The workshops, hosted by Purdue Extension of Hancock County, offers current and aspiring backyard fruit growers the opportunity to learn from experts about how to increase the success and quality of fruit production at home. Each session is 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and is offered live at 803 Apple St., Greenfield, or remotely. Sessions are Feb. 16, Feb. 23, March 2, March 9 and March 16. Cost is $40 per person for all sessions.

Wellspring food pantry hours announced

GREENFIELD – Food pantry hours for the Wellspring Center Mental Health and Wellness Program are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays, noon to 7 p.m. Tuesdays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays.

The center is located in Brandywine Community Church, 1551 E. New Road, Greenfield. The center also offers mental health and addiction related groups and services. For an appointment with a resource coach, call 317-462-2015.

Greenfield Main Street seeks new volunteers

GREENFIELD – Greenfield Main Street is seeking community volunteers for its organization.

People are needed to serve on the organization committee, economic vitality committee, design committee, promotion committee. The organization committee meets the second Wednesday of each month at 3 p.m. and focuses on increasing the volunteer base and building partnerships with other groups. The economic vitality committee meets the second Tuesday of each month at 3 p.m. and focuses on small business development and retention, as well as oversees the Downtown Dollars Program. The design committee meets the first Tuesday of each month at 3 p.m., focusing on all aspects of downtown’s physical appearance. The promotion committee focuses on marketing downtown and creating community events, meeting the first Wednesday of each month at 3 p.m.

State agencies to host virtual job fair

GREENFIELD – A virtual job fair to promote multiple positions in state agencies will be held from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19. The fair is hosted by the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles and Indiana Department of Workforce Development.

Opportunities include customer service representative (intermittent, part-time, full-time), team lead, manager in training, assistant branch manager and branch manager. BMV leaders will discuss job opportunities in detail, along with benefits and how to apply. BMV team members also will be on hand to share why they chose to work at the BMV and how they’ve advanced their careers.

Those interested in the job fair but unable to attend are encouraged to still register, as a recording will be sent via email the following day.

Online meeting to inform on solar panels

GREENFIELD – Indiana residents and business owners will learn how the federal tax credit of 26 percent has been extended through 2022 for installing solar panels on houses, farm structures and places of business during the next Zoom meeting of Solarize East Central Indiana.

The free Zoom meeting is sponsored by Solarize ECI, a grassroots community group affiliated with Solarize Indiana, and will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 20. It will include a 30-minute presentation followed by an hour for questions and answers.
