MCCORDSVILLE — The McCordsville Police Department responded to a report of a distressed person at The Villages at Brookside Thursday, December 9; at least one shot was fired on the scene, but no one was hurt and the resident was transported to a hospital for evaluation.

McCordsville officers were dispatched to the apartment complex at around 12:13 p.m. Thursday, according to a release from public information officer Sgt. Aaron Watts. They were responding to reports that a man was locked in his bathroom with two guns. Once there, they found that he believed someone was trying to break into his home; officers found no one around the exterior of the building.

The man initially refused to leave his residence and fired at least one shot. He was taken into custody by the Hancock County Joint Tactical Team and transferred to Community North Hospital about being checked by medics on the scene. A report will be forwarded to the Hancock County prosecutor’s office, which will decide whether to file criminal charges.
