Sideline: Mt. Vernon’s La Belle, others earn IFCA All-State honors

Mt. Vernon senior Keagan La Belle and several other Hancock County football standouts were recently honored by the Indiana Football Coaches Association.

La Belle, who helped lead Class 4A Mt. Vernon to the program’s first IHSAA state title last month, was named to the 2021 IFCA Top-50 All-State team as a linebacker.

Mt. Vernon first-year head coach Vince Lidy was recognized as the 4A Coach of the Year by the IFCA after his Marauders finished 14-1 this season en route to the state championship. MV offensive coordinator Toby Jacobs was named IFCA 4A Assistant Coach of the Year.

Mt. Vernon’s Ray Wells (OL), Ashden Gentry (WR) and Gehrig Slunaker (QB) were named to the IFCA 4A Senior All-State team. Greenfield-Central’s Rashawn Street (DB) also earned 4A Senior All-State honors.

Mt. Vernon’s George Burhenn (DB) was named to the IFCA 4A Junior All-State team along with Greenfield-Central’s Brad Allen (DL) and Andrew Zellers (RB).

New Palestine’s Madix Johnson (DB) earned a spot on the IFCA 5A Senior All-State team. New Palestine’s Isaiah Thacker was named to the IFCA 5A Junior All-State team.

EH Boosters seeking HOF nominations

The Eastern Hancock Athletic Boosters are seeking nominations for the 2022 class of the Eastern Hancock Athletic Hall of Fame. The EH Athletics Hall of Fame recognizes the achievements of former athletes, teams, coaches, administrators and other contributors to the athletic programs at Eastern Hancock, Charlottesville, Westland and Wilkinson High Schools.

To be eligible, an athlete must be seven years removed from competition, coaches five years removed and teams 10 years removed. Nominations are due to the Eastern Hancock athletic director’s office or by email to [email protected] by 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 17.

The 2022 EH Athletics Hall of Fame class will be recognized at halftime of the Eastern Hancock-Heritage Christian boys varsity basketball game on Saturday, Jan. 15.
