Dr. Stephen C. Koehler

72, passed away November 10, 2021. He was born January 2, 1949 in Oak Park, Illinois to the late Alexander and Louise L. Lofquist Koehler. Stephen was a graduate of Lebanon High School. He received his Bachelor’s Degree and DDS Degree from Indiana University School of Dentistry. Stephen did his residency in Periodontics at the Richard Roudebush Veteran’s Hospital before opening his private practice on the eastside of Indianapolis.

Stephen loved doing home improvement projects and could repair anything and everything. Stephen proudly embraced his Swedish heritage and was fortunate to travel to Sweden, many other European countries, Mexico, nearly all 50 United States including Alaska and Hawaii. He loved the Rolling Stones, Les Miserables, reading Breitbart and Stampede Blue. Stephen was generous, kind, had a dry sense of humor, and was loved by many.

Visitation will be Sunday, November 14, 2021 from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service at 2:00 p.m. at Shirley Brothers Washington Memorial Chapel, 9606 E. Washington Street.

Stephen is survived by his loving wife, Sarah Koehler; daughters, Emily Koehler (Matt Machala) and Maggie Clifford (Adam); son, Dr. Karl Koehler (Beth); and their mother, Kathryn Koehler; Sarah’s children, Jennifer Hlavsa (Matt) and Joseph Beasley (Ashley) grandchildren, George and Oscar Clifford, Noel and Russell Koehler, Ziggy and Cici Hlavsa and Hunter Beasley; brothers, Dr. Karl A. Koehler (Dr. Lynda Koehler) and David A. Koehler (MaryAnne); and sister, Dr. Linda L. Strawbridge (Rob Burton).

Memorial contributions may be made in Stephen’s honor to Miles For Myeloma. Stephen’s family wishes to thank Dr. Attaya Suvannasankha for her guidance, support and love during his 15 year battle. They would also like to thank all the nurses and staff who cared for Stephen at Simon Cancer Center.
