GREENFIELD

John K. Miller, 68, of Greenfield, passed away Oct. 26th, 2021.

Born in New Castle, John was raised on the grounds of the New Castle State psychiatric hospital. This experience would influence John’s life in multiple ways that may or may not have been immediately clear to those who knew him well. John attended New Castle Chrysler High School where he lettered in swimming before graduating as a proud member of the Class of 1971. He was an alumnus of Wabash College, attaining a Bachelor’s in English in 1975.

John was a born engineer, overseeing civil improvement projects across Indiana and Texas. He was particularly proud of his inspection and approval of the plumbing installation at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, saying that it was the first time that thousands of people would “give a [shoot]” about his work.

John is survived by his loving children, Aaron Miller and Cara Miller; 3 grandchildren: Noah Miller, Alston McDaniel, and Zuri Miller; sister, Ann (Bernie) Crispin; step-sister, Andrea (Ken) Boyd; and step-mother, Sharon (Fred) Feister.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Keith and Celia (Wright) Miller; and aunts, Marilyn Cole and Eileen Bergstorn.

A true stranger to no one, John was well-traveled, seeking connection and meaning in every interaction. He valued curiosity and exploration, consistently absorbing literature, visual arts, and music (particularly jazz and blues). John was a private and proud person, though he was most proud, however, of his role as a provider for his children and grandchildren. He leaves behind a legacy of poignant humor, honesty, and love.

A celebration of life will be held at Greenfield Christian Church, 23 N East St, Greenfield, IN, on Saturday, November 6th at 11:00am. His family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made directly via https://gofund.me/9ea46675. One may also leave a condolence online by visiting www.stillingerfamily.com.
