Warehouse delayed again by planners

HANCOCK COUNTY — A zoning change needed for a proposed warehouse was continued for a third time Tuesday night so officials can gather information they say will help them make a decision on the matter.

Exeter Property Group wants to rezone 40 acres at the northeast corner of county roads 300N and 400W from agricultural to an industrial business park designation for an over-523,000-square-foot building. The development would be speculative, meaning an occupant has yet to be identified.

The Hancock County Area Plan Commission voted unanimously to continue consideration of the rezone to next month. Bill Spalding, a commission member and county commissioner, said he learned of information earlier that day that the county auditor’s office can provide to help determine whether the county has enough, too little or too many of the kind of proposed building.

The continuance follows one from last month due to a split vote and not enough plan commission members present at the meeting, and one from August to give the developer time to meet with neighbors.
