GREENFIELD — The Greenfield City Council held a public hearing last week on the proposed 2022 city budget. One letter that included a petition of 25 residents was presented to the council. It was submitted earlier in the day to city hall by Larry Silver. The document listed concerns about expenditures on the mayor’s salary; flowers in the median on State Road 9 and a study to expand Park Cemetery. The petition did not, however, specify tax rates or levies under objection.

The city council held no discussion on the letter and unanimously passed a second reading of the city budget. A final reading is on the agenda for the Oct. 27 meeting; and then it will be submitted to the state for approval.

The $30.3 million budget includes a $2,000 raise for all city employees; an $8,000 raise for the mayor and clerk-treasurer; and funds restored to many of the nonprofit organizations that saw cuts due to the pandemic and economic downturn.
