Former Cumberland police chief dies

CUMBERLAND — Ronald Cole, 70, an officer with the Cumberland Metropolitan Police Department, died Oct. 11, 2021.

Cole began serving with the department as a reserve/volunteer officer in 1986 while a full-time Warren Township firefighter. He retired from the fire department in 2001 and joined the police department as a full-time officer and acting chief of police.

Cole went on to serve under five chiefs of police and was a certified instructor, a field training officer, investigator, patrol supervisor, events command officer and several other posts.

He retired from full-time duty with the police department in April 2020 and continued as a reserve/volunteer.
