FORTVILLE — Mt. Vernon community schools recently received accolades from two private education entities.

Mt. Vernon High School was one of only 64 schools across the state that earned the Great Schools College Success Award from GreatSchools.org. Also, all five schools in the Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation earned the “Highly Effective Schools Accreditation” from Solution Tree, a professional development company for educators.

The college success award for the high school is based on available college preparation and postsecondary data provided by the state, awarding those with a strong track record of postsecondary success.

“It is very rewarding for both our students and our staff to receive this type of recognition,” Casey Dodd, principal of Mt. Vernon High School, said in a press release. “Our students work hard to achieve at high levels and our staff are dedicated to providing learning experiences that will help our students prepare for life after high school. An award like this is a symbol that, collectively, we are all headed in a positive direction.”

A total of 77 schools in Indiana took home a College Success Award, with 64 others also obtaining the Gold level honor. As one of only 64 schools across the state, Mt. Vernon exemplifies its ability to prepare all students for college success as it is both an economic and a moral imperative for our country.

Meanwhile, all five schools in the Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation earned a Highly Effective Schools Accreditation from Solution Tree. This accreditation reflects all five schools’ commitment to reaching and maintaining the highest levels of educational quality.

Mt. Vernon High School, Mt. Vernon Middle School, Fortville Elementary School, McCordsville Elementary School, and Mt. Comfort Elementary School earned this accreditation by maintaining and growing identified areas having the biggest impact on student learning and growth, the corporation announced.

“The staff at all five Mt. Vernon schools work tirelessly to provide a top-quality educational environment where all students can learn and thrive,” Superintendent Jack Parker said in a press release. “This accreditation demonstrates the dedication our staff and school leaders have to continue their mission to help students become successful in and out of the classroom. We are so proud of the continuing efforts our staff has made to provide a positive academic experience where students develop a lasting love of learning.”
