GREENFIELD
Russell “Russ” L. Thompson, age 76, of Greenfield, went to be with the Lord on August 29, 2021. Born on August 24, 1945, in Indianapolis, IN, he was the son of Nellie Thompson.
Russ served in Vietnam with 101st Airborn paratroopers. When he returned home, he began working at Eli Lilly, where he retired after 34 years. While working at Eli Lilly, he met the love of his life, Judy Simms, who he was married to for 47 years before her passing. He was a member of the F.O.P., American Legion, and the VFW in Greenfield. He loved playing cards and hanging out with friends and family.
He is survived by his sons, Brent (Samantha) Thompson of Greenfield and Jason (Jennifer) Thompson of Noblesville; 9 grandchildren, Gabriel Thompson, Luke Thompson, Micah Tsamwa, Gabriella Hannah, McKenzie Hannah, Taylor Thompson, Cole Thompson, Allie Thompson and Ian Thompson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Thompson; mother, Nellie Thompson; and brothers, Edward Thompson and Bill Thompson.
A celebration of life will be held on September 10, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Hancock County FOP, 400 E. Davis Rd, Greenfield, IN 46140. Arrangements are being handled by Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory in Greenfield.
