NEW PALESTINE — Two juveniles from Indianapolis are facing charges after at least one vehicle was stolen in a neighborhood, police said.

The teenagers were arrested after a pursuit that ended when the vehicle crashed.

According to the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department, a pickup truck was stolen at a residence in the 4000 block of West Havens Drive at about 2:45 a.m. Saturday, July 17. Unbeknownst to the criminals, the vehicle had a GPS tracker on it, so its owner was able to tell officers where it was heading, said Capt. Robert Harris, public information officer for the sheriff’s department.

Deputies were able to track the pickup, which the tracker showed entered Interstate 70 before heading eastbound to State Road 9 in Greenfield. That’s where officers were able to catch up to the vehicle and attempted to stop it.

After a short pursuit, the stolen truck crashed through a fence by bus garage at Maxwell Intermediate School, Harris said. A report states the passenger was caught and sent home and will have juvenile charges submitted. The driver was transported to a detention center in Pendleton.

No injuries were reported in the pursuit, Harris said.

Investigators were looking into other incidents in the neighborhood to see if the two juveniles had anything to do with another report of a stolen vehicle in the 4000 block of West Harvest Way reported the same night. According to reports, a stolen car was later found on the same street where the pickup was stolen.
