GREENFIELD — They come from all corners of the county and represent a wide variety of interests, but they all have one thing in common: a wish to become the next Hancock County 4-H Fair Queen.

Fifteen young women will vie for their shot at the crown today (Saturday, June 12) at the 4-H Fair Queen Pageant, taking place at Trinity Park United Methodist Church in Greenfield.

The interview portion of the contest starts at 10 a.m., while the public portion of the pageant doesn’t start until 3 p.m.

Due to social distancing, the event is limited to six guests per contestant. Other spectators can livestream the pageant, which is being broadcast by Ninestar Connect.

This will be the 63rd year for the annual pageant, which serves as the traditional kickoff to the Hancock County 4-H Fair.

To enter the pageant, contestants must be at least 16 years old and be active in the local 4-H program.

This year’s newly crowned fair queen and her court will be tasked with spending a lot of time at the fairgrounds presenting ribbons and posing for photographs throughout this year’s fair, which takes place June 18-25.

Last year’s queen, Jordyn Wickard, and the 2020 Queen’s Court largely missed out on the chance to reign over last year’s fair, which was a minimized version of a typical fair due to the pandemic. They’re invited back this year, however, to serve alongside the 2021 queen and her court.

Visit greenfieldreporter.com later today for the results from this year’s pageant.
