HANCOCK COUNTY — The Hancock County Auxiliary Communications Service is asking for the public’s help to ensure important messages can be heard in case of an emergency. It will hold a radio test at 10:45 a.m. Friday, June 4, on 1610 AM radio. The event will be broadcast from the Hancock County Emergency Operations Center, 640 S. Franklin St. in Greenfield.

In the event of a natural disaster or severe weather that could disrupt normal communications, the Hancock County Auxiliary Communication Service group is designed to relay important information to county citizens using AM radio technology. During this test, they are asking residents to tune a radio to 1610 on the AM dial and report how well they received the broadcast, along with their approximate location. Listeners can report their findings on the Hancock County EMA page, or send an email to [email protected]. Feedback from residents is important to the group’s mission of providing communication support in times of need.

A Facebook video about the test will be posted on the Hancock County EMA Facebook page today (Thursday, June 3).
