GREENFIELD — First-responders with the Greenfield Police Department and Greenfield Fire Territory began a search Wednesday morning, May 26, when they thought a person was in danger. The situation turned out to be a false alarm.

The 911 center received a call from a person stating they received a text message about another person possibly having a medical emergency in a wooded area near Broadway Street and New Road on the north side of Greenfield. Police officers and fire personnel began searching a wooded area at that corner in an attempt to locate the person but were not able to find anyone, said Capt. Chuck McMichael, GPD’s public information officer. After about 90 minutes, the person in question was located in Richmond and is reportedly fine.

Detectives are now looking into the incident to determine how the information originated.

“Thankfully, the person is fine and there was no emergency,” McMichael said.
