GREENFIELD — Two children riding together on a bicycle struck a moving vehicle late Wednesday night and are currently at Riley Hospital for Children Indianapolis. Their condition is not known at this time, officials said.

Officials from the Greenfield Fire Territory and Greenfield Police Department were called to the 100 block of Pratt Street around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 21 to assist with an injured person. A preliminary investigation indicates both children were on the same bicycle, one sitting on the handlebar, traveling eastbound in an alley way when they failed to stop before entering onto Pratt Street, public information officer Capt. Chuck McMichael said.

According to officials the bicycle entered the roadway and struck the back driver’s side fender of a moving pick-up truck. The truck was driven by Jacob Peck, Greenfield. Peck immediately stopped his vehicle and rendered aid to the children. Peck is fully cooperating with the investigation and is not suspected of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol, McMichael said.

Both children, ages 11 and 14, were transported to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis to be treated for their injuries. An update on their condition will be posted as soon as information is available. Greenfield Officers were assisted at the scene by the Hancock County Fatal Accident Crash Team (FACT), who is handling the ongoing investigation.
