The phase of the State Road 9 project that is taking place south of Main Street has been delayed by six weeks.

GREENFIELD — Construction work on State Road 9 on the south side of Greenfield is facing delays and is expected to extend by another six weeks.

Originally scheduled to finish in May, the project is now expected to be completed in mid-July. State Road 9, or State Street, is closed between Main Street (U.S. 40) and Davis Road on the south side of the city.

Capt. Chuck McMichael of the Greenfield Police Department said the project contractors experienced some miscommunications with utility provider Vectren about the location of its service lines, which will need to be moved before the project can go forward.

The Greenfield Water Utility is also replacing old water mains in the area; it plans to complete this work by May 17, McMichael said. He said the hope is that Vectren can work alongside the city utility and complete their work by that date.
