There have been two previous letters questioning why Sheriff Brad Burkhart wants to spend a ton of money to hire 23 new jailers. And now on top of that I see that he wants to have the salaries of all of his people significantly increased ("Officials continue to decide on raises," Page A1, March 11).
We either need a more thrifty sheriff or council members.
The council claims to have lost some sources of tax money in the pandemic, so why would they even consider this additional money request?
The sheriff is testing the council. If they can’t say no, then they should step aside.
