GREENFIELD — The Greenfield Board of Works recently awarded Williams Tree Company a contract for tree removal in the Brandywine greenway area that will make way for a new trail connector. The city will pay $89,485 for the work.

The trail extension will connect the city’s Brandywine Trail with the Pennsy Trail.

Parks director Ellen Kuker said the company immediately began surveying the area to determine which trees will need to be felled and which can be preserved. The objective, she said, is for the trail to align closely with Brandywine Creek.

The trail connector is expected to be completed in late summer or early fall of this year.
