Prep Roundup: New Pal gymnastics wins season finale

The New Palestine gymnastics team won its regular-season finale Tuesday night at Shelbyville, 98.1-92.4.

The Dragons had two individual-event winners. Kennedy Garrett won the balance beam (8.675) and Emma Poag won on uneven bars (8.1).

On vault, Garrett was second (8.45), Poag third (8.425), Alyse Rickey fourth (8.3) and Blakelie Brubeck sixth (7.95).

On beam, in addition to Garrett’s victory, Emily Hunter was fourth (7.6). Addi Bird and Addy Kendall tied for fifth (7.525).

On bars, in addition to Poag’s victory, Garrett was second (8.15), Kendall fourth (7.875) and Rickey sixth (7.15).

On floor exercise, Kendall was second (8.4), Poag tied for third (8.375) and Garrett fifth (7.95).

The Dragons compete in the Connersville Sectional this Saturday, beginning at 11 a.m.


Information released for Richmond Sectional

The Class 4A Sectional 9 boys basketball tournament will begin Tuesday, March 2, inside Richmond High School’s Tiernan Center with Anderson taking on Muncie Central in the opening round at 7 p.m.

New Palestine faces rival Greenfield-Central on Wednesday, March 3 at 8 p.m. after Mt. Vernon takes on host Richmond in the evening’s first opening-round game at 6 p.m.

The sectional semifinals are Friday, March 5 with two games scheduled at 6 p.m. (Pendleton Heights vs. the winner of Muncie Central-Anderson) and at 8 p.m. (between the winner’s of Wednesday’s contests). The championship game is at 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 6.

Doors will open one hour prior to the first game each night.

Fans of the second game each night will not be allowed to enter until the fans of the first game have left and the facility has been sanitized. The host school has allotted 30 minutes between games to sanitize the Tiernan Center on Wednesday and Friday.

Fans will be notified when it is time to enter following sanitation via Twitter (@RHSRedDevils) and Facebook (Richmond High School Athletics) pages.

There will be no reserved seating for spectators. All seating will be in sections. Sections may change from game to game.

The Tiernan Center will be at 50 percent capacity with 2,800 tickets permitted to be sold per game. All tickets will be sold online at $6 per session. There will be no tickets sold at the door. A link to purchase tickets will be sent to the participating athletic directors prior to each game.

After the participating schools have sold tickets, and if tickets remain for the games, Richmond athletics will offer a general ticket link to fans for all schools the day before each session. This link will be posted on Richmond athletic’s social media pages.
