GREENFIELD — The travel advisory level in Hancock County has been lowered as roads are cleared after the major snowstorm Monday.

County commissioners lowered the advisory level to “yellow” on Wednesday, Feb. 17.

The lowest level of advisory, the yellow alert signals that routine travel may be difficult because of hazardous weather, and drivers should use caution.

Commissioner John Jessup said the county’s roads were in much better condition Wednesday, though the highway department was still trying to catch up with clearing some subdivision streets.

Greenfield street commissioner Tyler Rankins said the city’s streets were also much improved, although some streets remained slick.

With more snow projected overnight on Wednesday, the Indiana Department of Transportation put out a full call for trucks to clear state highways heading into today (Thursday, Feb. 18). A fleet of 30 trucks was sent out to Greenfield beginning at midnight, in addition to 50 trucks in Indianapolis.

About an inch of snow was predicted to fall overnight. INDOT reminded drivers to slow down and make sure to give distance to plow trucks.

Rankins said the relatively small amount of snow would likely not present an obstacle in continuing to keep streets clear.
