GREENFIELD
Philip Leonard Jeffries was born on the family farm near Fountaintown in Shelby County, Indiana on October 23, 1940. He passed to his Heavenly reward on January 29, 2021 at Springhurst in Greenfield. He was the son of Leonard and Mavern Wickliff Jeffries. He was a 1958 graduate of Wilkinson High School and attended Purdue University. Phil married Nila Paxton on July 2, 1961 in Madison County.
Phil previously worked for the Indiana State Highway Dept. Later he became a computer programmer/analyst for Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance. He also worked for Service Supply and Red Ball, where he retired. Phil was a fourth-generation member of Shiloh Christian Church. He served many roles there as a Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, Deacon, and Elder. Phil enjoyed reading and traveling.
Phil is survived by his wife, Nila Paxton Jeffries; sons, Brian (Karen) Jeffries and Todd (Robin) Jeffries; grandchildren, Ashley (Brady Bostic), Caleb (Kimberly Wedinger), Emily (Austin Bowling), and Erin (Jimmy Vetters); sister, Norma Jean Smith; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother-in-law, E. Marcus Smith.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 3, 2021, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will take place immediately following the visitation at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Fred Girdwood will be officiating. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield. As a reminder, the government mandate requires guests to wear masks when inside our building. We must limit the number of guests at a time and please practice social distancing.
