GREENFIELD

Donna Marie Hoff Scott, 81, of Greenfield was called to her Heavenly Home on Thursday, January 7. An only child, Donna was born to Herbert and Hazel Roeder Hoff on April 23, 1939 in Indianapolis. They considered themselves incredibly blessed as she was born late in their lives and after they had given up hope on having children. They remained an ever-present support to her until their passing. Donna is preceded in death by her beloved husband John Robert Scott.

Donna was dedicated to her faith, devoted to her family, deeply vested in farming, and blessed with meaningful friendships. She received the gift of Holy Baptism on May 28, 1939 at Zion Lutheran Church. Through Donna’s lifetime, she gave her time, talents, and treasures to Trinity Lutheran Church, Faith Lutheran Church, and Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Donna served as Sunday School and VBS teacher and superintendent, Church Officer, and Lutheran Women’s League Member (LWML). She served her local LWML, the Mary Martha Guild, in every office capacity and attended LWML conventions with her sisters in Christ.

After graduating from Thomas Carr Howe High School in 1957, the city girl married John Scott in 1958 and moved to rural Hancock County. She worked at Western Electric until starting their family. In 1967, John and Donna purchased a small farm and Donna began her career in agriculture, building a lasting relationship with the broader community. She worked alongside her family raising livestock and expanding a grain operation. Together Donna and John built a trusted agriculture business in Hancock County in partnership with their family.

Donna dedicated over 20 years to the Hancock County 4-H program as Triple “L” 4-H Club Leader and 4-H Ag Association Board Member. She volunteered in the Clothing, Foods, and Microwave projects in roles of Supervisor and Assistant. She worked alongside John when he served as Swine Barn Supervisor. Donna was an avid supporter and helper to her children and grandchildren…all 4-H members.

Donna will always be remembered as a selfless, strong woman with a heart of gold and a beautiful smile. Her words of advice, love, and compassion will be carried on in her memory in the hearts, minds, and attitudes of her children, grandchildren, and every other life that she touched.

Donna’s family counts themselves incredibly blessed to have been raised under her influence and example. They are children Mary (Greg) Gibble, Phillip (Jill) Scott, and Sarah (Scott) Kelley; and grandchildren Austin Gibble, Emily (Perry) Flaugh, Mitchell and Olivia Scott, Sean and Devon Kelley. She is also survived by her brothers-in-law, Paul (Marcia) and George (Pat) Scott.
