HANCOCK COUNTY — A head-on crash just West of Greenfield killed one person while sending two others to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries Friday evening. The deceased driver has been identified as Lisa Pinner, 49, of Greenfield, officials from the Sheriff’s Department said.

The accident happened around 5:45 p.m. Friday, Jan. 1 on County Road 200 North and Sugar Creek Trail. That’s where officials from the Sheriff’s Department were called to investigate a two-vehicle, head-on crash about two miles west of Greenfield.

The crash involved a 2016 Nissan Altima driven by Pinner, and a 2012 Volkswagen Passat occupied by a married couple from Shirley. Deputies arrived on scene and called for the Hancock County Fatal Accident Crash Team (F.A.C.Team) to respond because of the severity of the crash.

The Nissan was traveling east bound on County Road 200 North. The Volkswagen was traveling west bound on County Road 200 North. The vehicles were approaching each other. Evidence at the scene indicates the passenger side wheels of the Nissan left the roadway, leading the Nissan to impact a guardrail end. The impact with the guardrail forced the Nissan into the path of the Volkswagen, resulting in the head-on crash. The reason the Nissan left the roadway has not been determined.

Pinner, the only occupant of the Nissan died at the scene of the crash, officials said.

The driver of the Volkswagen was identified as Ruthie Gregory, 64, Shirley. The passenger was identified as her husband, Donald Gregory, 73. Both were both transported to the hospital by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries. They are both cooperating with the investigation, officials said.

At this time, it is unknown if drugs and alcohol are a factor and the investigation is ongoing.

County Road 200 North was closed for a about 3 hours while officers from the Hancock County Fatal Accident Crash Team investigated.
