The Greenfield-Central girls basketball team halted its two-game losing streak with a solid 62-49 victory against Hoosier Heritage Conference foe Shelbyville on Tuesday night.

The Cougars jumped out to a 20-7 lead over the host Golden Bears and never looked back, building a 37-8 advantage by halftime.

The Cougars’ win secured their first in the HHC this season and improved their league record to 1-2 and 3-7 overall.

Aryana Hibbard led the Cougars with 20 points on 7 of 10 shooting. The sophomore shot 5 of 7 from 3-point range and added two assists.

Senior Addie Hill had 19 points and buried 10 of 13 free throws to go with two assists and two steals.

Both seniors Brooke Herrell and Caroline Gibson chipped in nine points apiece for Greenfield-Central. Sophomore Schuyler Sparks finished with six rebounds, and Gibson had a team-best eight boards with five assists.

The Cougars host HHC foe Delta on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

Wrestling

Royals fall to Saints in dual

The Eastern Hancock wrestling team picked up seven wins, including three pins, against Indianapolis Lutheran on Tuesday night, but the Saints were able to escape with a 42-36 win.

The EH Royals scored falls from Kolton Gilbreath, a freshman at 120 pounds, freshman Kyle Murphy at 126 and freshman Carter Wickard at 132.

Gilbreath’s fall unfolded in 2 minutes, 22 seconds. Murphy had the fastest pin for the Royals in 1:48. Wickard stuck his opponent in 3:44.

Senior Avery Wills won by decision 7-2 at 152, and sophomore Brayden Tincher won by decision 4-2 at 170.

Dylan Bowman (138), a freshman, and classmate Cameron Volz (113) both received forfeit victories.

Other News

Greenfield-Central High School athletics is accepting nominations for the 2021 Class of the G-C Athletic Hall of Fame through Friday, Jan. 8, 2021.

Those individuals that are selected will be announced via the G-C athletics website and other social media, but the in-person recognition will take place in 2022 alongside the Class of 2022.

To nominate student-athletes, coaches or supporters, who are deserving of the Hall of Fame, complete the form available on gchscougars.com and return to the GC Athletics Office by Jan. 8, 2021.

Graduates from the class of 2015 or earlier are eligible this year.
