County adds 2 COVID-19 deaths; toll now at 67

HANCOCK COUNTY — Hancock County confirmed two new COVID-19 deaths over the weekend, raising its total to 67. The deaths took place prior to the weekend, according to the Indiana State Department of Health’s COVID-19 dashboard.

The county also saw a high number of new COVID-19 cases, with 57 new cases confirmed on Sunday, Dec. 6, and 96 confirmed on Saturday, Dec. 5. The seven-day positivity rate for the county is 16.6%.

The county added 569 new tests on Sunday, bringing its total number of tests administered to over 50,000.

Most schools in the county saw either no new cases or fewer than five new cases of the virus, according to figures updated Monday on the state dashboard, but Greenfield-Central High School added 10 new student cases, and New Palestine High School added 11.

As a whole, the state of Indiana reported 42 new deaths and 5,700 new positive cases on Sunday. Its seven-day positivity rate was 13.8% and the cumulative rate was 7.6%.
