HANCOCK COUNTY — A woman is in critical condition after a single-vehicle crash Tuesday morning, Nov. 24.

The Hancock County Sheriff’s Department was called to the area of 7400 W. Stinemyer Road west of New Palestine at about 9:30 a.m. for a vehicle that had crashed into a tree, according to a news release from the Hancock County Fatal Accident Crash Team, which responded due to the severity of the crash.

The crash involved a 2016 Chevrolet Malibu driven by sole occupant Sherri Dugger, 59, whose address was listed in New Palestine. Evidence at the scene indicates the vehicle failed to negotiate a slight curve in the roadway and traveled off the road before striking a tree head-on, the news release states.

Dugger was transported by air ambulance to Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis with internal injuries and was in critical condition. Her family had been notified. She remained in critical condition on Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 25, a hospital representative said.

The investigation is ongoing, according to the news release.

Stinemyer Road was closed for about two hours while officers from the Fatal Accident Crash Team investigated.
