Defendants sentenced after plea agreements

HANCOCK COUNTY — Several defendants with criminal cases in Hancock County Circuit Court were sentenced last week after Judge Scott Sirk accepted plea agreements.

David E. Coggins, 39, New Palestine, who had been charged with Level 4 and Level 5 felony counts of burglary, was sentenced to five years with 3½ years suspended to non-reporting probation. The other 545 days of the sentence are to be served at the jail through community corrections home detention.

Nathan Albertson, 40, Indianapolis, had been charged with a Level 5 felony count of failure to register as a sex or violent offender with a previous conviction. He was sentenced to three years in prison with 547 days suspended. Albertson’s sex offender probation will be served in Marion County.

Perry T. Johnson, 26, Indianapolis, had been charged with four crimes, including a Level 5 felony count of carrying a handgun without a license with the same prior offense.

Johnson pleaded guilty to the felony and a misdemeanor drug charge. Sirk sentenced him to four years in prison, with two years suspended for the felony charge. Johnson also received a one-year term for the misdemeanor charge. That sentence will run at the same time as the one for the felony count. As part of the plea agreement, two misdemeanor charges were dismissed.

All three cases were heard Thursday, Nov. 19.
