Coaches Association honors local tennis players

The Indiana High School Tennis Coaches Association recently announced its 2020 boys tennis all-district, all-state and honorable mention teams.

The Mt. Vernon Marauders, Eastern Hancock Royals and New Palestine Dragons each had competitors recognized for their efforts this season.

Mt. Vernon’s No. 1 doubles team of Owen Koon and Dallas Turner were selected all-state honorable mention for the sectional champion Marauders.

Koon and Turner also made the All-District 4 team.

Eastern Hancock’s Kodey Huff was named all-state honorable mention as a singles player. The senior also earned All-District 4 honors.

New Palestine’s Ezra Schwier was named all-state honorable mention. The junior No. 1 singles player also earned All-District 4 distinctions.

No. 2 Yorktown wins Greenfield-Central Regional

Greenfield-Central High School hosted a Class 4A regional tournament this Saturday, which consisted of three teams ranked in the Top 15.

No. 2 Yorktown won the tournament behind a 3-0 victory over Cathedral (25-14, 25-23, 25-17) in the quarterfinals and a 3-1 win over No. 13 Brownsburg (25-18, 25-27, 25-15, 26-24) in the finals. 

Brownsburg eliminated No. 15 Roncalli in the quarterfinal round 3-2 (25-15, 18-25, 25-13, 20-25, 15-10).

North Central, Carmel win individual tennis titles

A week after the two programs clashed for the team state title, the North Central Panthers and Carmel Greyhounds each captured a championship on Saturday during the IHSAA individual tennis state finals.

North Central’s Ajay Mahentiran defeated Brownsburg’s Petar Petrovic 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 on his home court to win the singles state championship.

Carmel’s Srisanth Malpeddi and Jones McNamar teamed to win the doubles state title, 6-0, 6-1 over Delta’s Walker Boyle and Brandon Jackson.

IHSAA soccer state finals set

The 2020 IHSAA boys and girls soccer state finals will be conducted on Friday and Saturday.

Two games will be played at Grand Park Sports Event Center in Westfield on Friday, while the four remaining games will take place at Fishers High School on Saturday.

Class A Girls: Park Tudor (21-2) vs. Lafayette Central Catholic (15-3), 6 p.m.

Class 2A Boys: Evansville Memorial (17-3) vs. Fort Wayne Canterbury (13-4-5), 8:30 p.m.

Saturday at Fishers High School

Class A Boys: Providence (16-3) vs. Argos (18-3-1), 11 a.m.

Class 2A Girls: Indianapolis Cathedral (10-6-3) vs. Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger (16-1), 2 p.m.

Class 3A Boys: Castle (17-2-1) vs. Chesterton (20-2), 5 p.m.

Class 3A Girls: Guerin Catholic (16-1-2) vs. Noblesville (16-0-1), 8 p.m.
