Pumpkin carving workshop to be held at Riley Home

GREENFIELD — The James Whitcomb Riley Boyhood Home and Hancock County Arts will host a pumpkin carving workshop from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 25 in the Riley Gazebo behind the Riley Home at 250 W. Main St. The workshop is for those who would like help carving a pumpkin — or those who want to learn some tricks of the trade. Participants of all ages should bring their own pumpkins and carving tools for assistance from local artists. Carvers may then take their pumpkins home or leave them to be part of the Festival of the Jack-o-Lanterns exhibit from Oct. 25 through 31. Pumpkins left for the exhibit should be picked up after 9 p.m. on Oct. 31 or before Nov.4.

Library offers NaNoWriMo support

HANCOCK COUNTY — Adults and teens are invited to join the Hancock County Public Library’s “NaNoWriMo” group. Participants will meet online as a closed group in “Google Classroom” and share ideas and inspiration for (Na)tional (No)vel (Wri)ting (Mo)nth, celebrated throughout the month of November. The goal of NaNoWriMo is to help writers submit a finished a 50,000-word novel, short story or poem collection, or memoir for online publication by November 30. Writing by yourself can be difficult, even for seasoned writers. The NaNoWriMo group is a safe, friendly and supportive space where colleagues can engage in discussion related to writing projects. Librarian Nicole Scurlock will share inspiration from the NaNoWriMo website as well as anything else that might help the creative process, start conversations, idea sharing and links to helpful resources.
