GREENFIELD — Avery Dennison is moving work to Greenfield from its Fort Wayne facility, which will be shut down.

The move affects about 170 jobs, some of which could be shifted to Greenfield, the company said. The company will take steps to look at offering opportunities or reassigning to the Greenfield facility where it can, according to a company spokesperson.

The company, whose headquarters are in Glendale, California, announced in a news release that it plans to consolidate its manufacturing footprint in North America. That includes moving production from its facility in Fort Wayne to its sites in Greenfield and Mentor, Ohio.

The company designs and manufactures printing labels and associated materials.

The transition, slated to begin in 2021, will be gradual and is expected to be complete by the fourth quarter of 2021.

“The decision to close the Fort Wayne facility came only after a strategic review of a number of options and in no way reflects the dedication or performance of our colleagues at the Fort Wayne facility,” Jeroen Diderich, Avery Dennison vice president and general manager for label and graphic materials North America, said in the news release. “We will work closely with those affected to help make the transition as smooth as possible, including opportunities for transfer, as possible, as well as separation pay and other benefits.”

Avery Dennison’s Greenfield location, located at 870 Anderson Boulevard, recently completed a 300,000-square foot expansion, doubling its size for the second time since its arrival in 1993.

Alisa Feingold, a company spokewoman, told the Daily Reporter in an email that the Greenfield site currently has about 310 employees.

Feingold also said as a result of the recently announced changes, “select capabilities and related machinery will be relocated to Greenfield.”

Avery Dennison operates in more than 50 countries and has more than 30,000 employees across the globe.
