To the editor:

As we get close to the 2020 election, there are things that happen that we find confusing.

The specific incidents that I am referring to are the taking down of historic monuments.

After some thought, it came to mind that a certain section of our politicians may want to erase the past, because of the political implications.

It has been assumed that, for some time now, that left-wing politics have always been against racism.

A look back at history reveals that it just wasn’t so.

Take a look for instance at the fire-eaters of the South, most of them slave-owning plantation people. And in fact, just about all of them Democrats, if you can believe that!

It was this group of slave owners that started the secession and the Civil War, despite the opposition of the northern Republicans and the Republican President Abraham Lincoln.

Hundreds of thousands of American citizens lost there lives. For what!

So that a certain group of wealthy people could have the “legal” right to own other human beings, and treat them like animals.

We now know why they are intent on erasing the past, because it is very embarrassing.

America is a great country even with its faults. That is why millions of people would like to live here.

Own up to the truth, and not try to mislead the voters.
