HANCOCK COUNTY — Two drug purchases allegedly involving an Indianapolis man have resulted in numerous felony drug charges against him.

Byron January, 29, 5000 block of North Emerson Court, has been charged with four Level 4 felonies for dealing drugs and five Level 5 felonies for possession of drugs. The most serious charge carries a sentence up to 12 years in prison.

According to a probable cause affidavit, multiple controlled drug buys took place between the dates of Oct. 1, 2018 and Nov. 2, 2018 during an investigation by the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department.

An informant used by the sheriff’s department was twice able to acquire drugs, including heroin and fentanyl, during the transactions, the affidavit said.

January made an initial appearance in Hancock County Circuit Court on Monday, Aug. 31, in front of Judge Scott Sirk, who set a $10,000 cash bond. January is set for a pretrial conference in early October.
