This story was updated on Monday, June 1 2020 to reflect the Indiana State Department of Health’s correction of COVID-19 data recorded for Hancock County.

HANCOCK COUNTY — The Indiana State Department of Health on Saturday removed the COVID-19 fatality it reported for Hancock County the day before.

The Indiana Joint Information told the Daily Reporter in an email that the death was removed from the total due to an error in reporting.

“Occasionally, we have to correct the listing when we are notified of an erroneous entry or updated information,” the email read.

The correction kept the county’s COVID-19 death toll at 27. The county’s most recent fatality from the disease was reported on May 21.

The Hancock County Health Department’s data on COVID-19 resident deaths at long-term care facilities in the county remained unchanged as of Friday morning from last check on May 21. Greenfield Healthcare Center remained at 18 deaths, but has added three more cases of the disease, raising that total to 58. Woodland Terrace of New Palestine remained at two cases and one death while the six other facilities in the county remained at no deaths or cases.

The state department of health added no COVID-19 cases to Hancock County’s total Friday, keeping it at 327. It was the first time the county went a day without adding to its case count since May 12. The county has added only 12 cases to its total since Sunday, May 24.

Total tests for which results have been received for Hancock County stood at 3,490 Friday, 107 more than the day before. Those latest tests spanned from May 9 through May 28.

State COVID-19 totals Friday came in at 33,558 cases, 1,946 deaths and 248,713 tests.
